I first came across the Alexander Technique as a student in the 1970's, hoping to make a career as a professional musician. I was a 'tense' performer, and found that the more I practised, the more my neck and shoulders hurt! Eventually my back seized up completely and unable to play at all, I found my way to an Alexander teacher. It was a demanding time; I had to completely re-think my approach to making music, but from my very first lesson I was convinced that the Alexander Technique would eventually show me a way of performing without pain.

In 1981 I decided to train to teach the Alexander Technique. Since qualifying in 1984 I have worked in London, Herts. and Sussex before moving to Goodmayes with my family in 1990. I still play double bass and piano, and always enjoy giving Alexander lessons to musicians.

I work in a variety of settings giving individual Alexander lessons and running groups and workshops. In 2004 I became interested in the relationship between Alexander Technique and the relief of stress. Having taken the OCR Diploma in Stress Management, I am now a member of ISMA (International Stress Management Association) and teach both Stress Management and Alexander Technique at a local Adult Education College.
